Wet Team

Matthew

Hi my name is Matthew and I'm 17 years old. I decided to get involved with iGEM as I'm interested in both chemistry and biology. iGEM also allows me to gain a greater understanding of synthetic biology and how it can be used to deal with real life problems. Also, through the use of the university's labs I hope to gain experience and new skills with equipment that I would never have been able to use at school.

Bartosz

Hi, my name is Bartosz and I’m 16 years old. I decided to participate in iGEM due to my strong interests in biology and mathematics. I have always liked doing experiments in a lab, and iGEM has allowed me to work with much more advanced equipment than I would have ever encountered in high school. I didn’t really know much about synthetic biology before joining iGEM, but the experiments I have performed have allowed me to achieve a much greater understanding of the subject. My interest in synthetic biology grew when I learned more about mathematical modelling and how we can apply it to synthetic biology. From iGEM, I hope to gain a lot of lab experience that would be useful in the future if I ever decide on a science-related career. I also hope that it will be a great opportunity to meet new people from all across the world with similar interests.

Albert

My name is Albert, I chose to get on board of the iGEM team as it gave me a unique opportunity to learn various new skills and a lot of new things related to microbiology. I hope that through iGEM I will be able to further develop myself in various aspects which will later help me towards achieving a higher point in my education, as the topics explored in iGEM are of my interest. I very much enjoy synthetic biology, as through careful work and planning we can use it to create structures which will further improve our lives.

Dry Team

Mia

Hi I’m Mia; I am interested in biology and maths, but specifically medical sciences. This is why I am participating in iGEM, as it explores many of my interests and allows me to gain first-hand experience of synthetic biology. I feel it’s a good stepping stone towards my intended further education route, as throughout the summer I will gain various skills in both the theoretical and practical aspects of biology. I wanted to focus particularly on lab work, as I have not had the chance to develop these hands-on skills during my time at school. I feel that iGEM is the perfect opportunity for me to further my biological knowledge and to learn many new skills.

Beth

Hi, I'm Beth and I'm 17. I chose to take part in iGEM as it was a great opportunity for me to expand my knowledge on two of my favourite subjects - biology and maths - but also will allow me to develop new skills, such as maths modelling and giving presentations. iGEM also gave me a unique opportunity to gain experience in the labs, something which I would not have ordinarily gotten the opportunity to do from school.

Darryl

My name is Darryl, I am 17 and the iGEM project caught my interest due to it being inter-disciplinary; whilst I of course have a strong interest in synthetic biology, I was keen to bring my computing, maths, art and graphic design skills to the team. Through iGEM, I hope to further develop these skills and use the experience as a platform from which to gain more knowledge about how synthetic biology fits into our daily lives, as well as how it can be developed further.
