I used to hate biology in grade school. I particularly detested learning about prokaryotic cells because they seemed irrelevant to daily life. In my senior year, I became good friends with my biology teacher, who introduced me to genetics. Without her, I wouldn't have enrolled in the biology program at university to pursue my interest in genetic engineering. Since then, I've taken classes, but it was a recent class I took on laboratory techniques that really solidified my desire to get into synthetic biology. I love working in the wet lab, and iGEM presented a perfect opportunity for me to gain experience while being a part of something bigger.<br>iGEM Confession: Sometimes I feel remorse for all of the E. coli and B. subtilis cells I kill during specific protocols, I love cellular biology that much.");
