The different parameters that had to be taken in account when speaking of atmospheric pollutants (local and regional pollutant emissions, meteorological conditions, transport as well as pollutant transformation) can be modeled. That’s why a 3D model of pollutant concentration can be an interesting prediction tool for air quality monitoring.
A biological system embedded in a drone would enable a precise pollution mapping, and thus a monitoring of pollution in the atmosphere.
The applications of this new monitoring tool are numerous, it includes defining pollution areas, identifying pollutant emitter industries, monitoring pollutant concentration throughout the year, localizing a chemical leakage along a pipeline. Data obtain using Quantifly will serve as a basis to define a new framework for future industrial and public regulations concerning pollutant emissions. In addition, our biosensor will give an early warning of environmental damage and thus will allow effective action to be taken.
In the end, the measures carried out with our integrated biosensor would have an impact on the real estate market as people don’t want to buy a house in an area rich in toxic compounds.
For the applications expose above, we have been thinking of several manners of commercializing Quantifly. We first thought of a selling a service instead of a product as we know that genetically modified organism cannot be manipulate by everybody. A data obtaining service can will establish for the government, companies or even individuals, where a technician comes perform on site measurements. The data is then accessible by the customer.
In parallel, we will working on legislation relating to information on pollution to make pollution level measurement compulsory. Secondly, we thought of developing a measuring device (smoke detector format) to be placed in public places. We are also currently investigating the idea of change the confinement mean by changing the drone for outdoors monitoring to a indoors captor containing our bacteria. We predict that indoors pollution will become in a near future a major concern, Lastly, we also imagined realizing an connected object that will give real time information on the air quality at the street level by a mobile application as the Plume lab app. Plume lab is a company that aims to give information on air pollution to the general public.
Last but not least, the greatest advantages of biosensor use is their adjustability. Indeed, one specific pollutants can be targeted by varying the VOC sensitive bacteria. Our embedded system will open up the new possibilities for environmental monitoring. Any environmental disruption may therefore be detected using the appropriate genetic sequence.
Quantifly is a new engineering means of pollutant detection. This mean will be less expensive, more sensitive, but particularly more flexible, versatile compared to existing methods which can only detect one type of pollutants.
