Fostering Lab-Focused STEM Education
The CAPS Kansas iGEM team fosters the next generation of bio-scientists by hosting bio-science related events for middle school students throughout the year. We believe one of the best ways to promote STEM education is exposure to scientific activities in a lab environment. These events are usually themed towards a fun topic and we select science experiments related to the topic. Then, either the middle school students perform the experiments or we perform them in a demonstration depending on the experiment. Afterwards, we explain the science behind the experiments to the middle school students to promote curiosity in science. We have had three middle school BioClub events with our iGEM team members this year and plan to continue these events.
