GenScript Call for Proposals

Proposals due May 1, 2016

Is your iGEM team looking to use the hottest gene editing technology to advance important research and clinical problems? The CRISPR/Cas9 technology has quickly revolutionized gene editing, with significant implications on the advancement of synthetic biology. In 2016, GenScript is calling for iGEM team proposals that enable CRISPR/Cas9 in the development of biologically useful model systems and tools.

Since its establishment in 2002, GenScript has been a leading provider of gene synthesis services to support life science research, translational biomedical research, and early stage pharmaceutical development. GenScript’s custom gene synthesis has accelerated synthetic biology research in many facets, from protein engineering to metabolic engineering, and more recently CRISPR genome editing. As one of the first companies to license CRISPR/Cas9 products from the Broad Institute, GenScript strives to support high quality CRISPR/Cas9 services and materials to support scientists harness the power of CRISPR genome editing in their research.

Call for Proposal Details

In 2016, GenScript seeks to support iGEM teams to advance the application of CRISPR/Cas9 in synthetic biology. Examples of projects GenScript is seeking to fund include:

  • Developing new CRISPR gRNA design tools;
  • Engineering CRISPR to power therapeutics development;
  • Harnessing CRISPR for more accurate genome editing in organisms other than mammalian, such as yeast, bacteria, plants, etc.

Reward Details

Awarded teams will receive a grant of up to $5,000 USD. Up to 10 teams will be awarded.

Proposal and application

Interested iGEM teams may submit a proposal with the following:

  1. A description of the intended project: maximum of 2 pages with a 100 word executive summary
  2. The potential applications and implications of the project
