Team

We are a group of undergraduates studying the Department of Biotechnology in IIT Madras. We are passionate about synthetic biology and deeply believe in its potential to have an unforeseen impact on society and human progress. Guided by our enthusiastic mentors Dr.Shashi Bala Prasad, Prof.Guhan Jayaraman and Prof. Nitish Mahapatra, we started work on our project in April and never looked back. We are truly fortunate to have a team comprising people with varied and complementary skill sets. Our overarching goal is to bring synthetic biology truly under the field of engineering, by developing better systems and tools.

Collaborations

We firmly believe that iGEM is a global collaborative exercise to further the progress of synthetic biology. In this spirit, we collaborated with many iGEM teams this year. We helped iGEM team Paris Bettencourt procure untreated unbleached cotton fabric(khadi cloth from some local suppliers) for their project. We also had a Skype chat and helped team Hong Kong HKUST with a modelling aspect of their project. A report of our contribution to their project can be found here.

In addition, we participated in the Indian meet up of iGEM teams held at SVCE Chennai in the month of July. We had a lot of fun presenting our respective projects and interacting with the other teams who attended(IISC Bangalore and SVCE Chennai). After this meet up, we agreed to send some important biobrick parts to each other to help validate our projects.

We thank SVCE for their help in characterising one of our parts. In return we helped in characterising one of their parts as well.

Attributions

Our iGEM project would not have been possible without the help, advice and facility provided by many of our friends and professors. We would like to sincerely thank all of them for helping us and for being patient with us.
