Dr. Ramon Birnbaum is the incumbent of the Belle and Murray Nathan Career Development Chair in Neurobiology, and the Principal Investigator of the Genomics and Transcriptional Regulation Laboratory at BGU. He is member of the Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cells, the Zlotowski Center for Neuroscience, and he is a co-founder of the Evolutionary Genomics and Medicine Center at BGU. Dr. Birnbaum was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) where he conducted research at the UCSF Institute for Human Genetics. Dr. Birnbaum’s focus was on functional genomics, gene regulation, and human disease. His research group is currently investigating genome-wide regulatory elements that are involved in inhibitory interneuron differentiation during brain development and their role in neurodevelopmental disorders.
