Meeting Minutes
Minutes
Email the link to ‘About our Lab/Project’ for the supervisors to check before we submit.
Project description was discussed. Neil has made some changes.
Jamboree hotels were discussed. Berkley 40 was a possibility, or the designated iGEM hotel which is Sheraton Boston ($249 Single/Double; $269 Triple; $289 Quad)
The team needs to decide the dates forr Boston and let Claire know so that she can book flights.
IWBDA registration was discussed
Poster was discussed
Contacted Paris who suggested an A1 poster
The supervisors would like to double check the poster before it is printed.
Interlab
Flowcytometry needs to be checked with the Health and Safety Officer.
Use Tom’s loaned plate reader for the interlab
Lightbulb team
htpG Promoter has been improved i.e. improve a part
BBa_B0034 was changed to before the gfp
Changed the BamH1 restriction site to HindIII
GDX from DNA 2.0 put into this format for Tom to double check.
Check the standard delivery costs
Put Cloning strategy into the Word Document
Check which plasmid to clone into.
DNA 2.0 BioBrick compatible plasmid and change into iGEM plasmid.
Or send DNA 2.0 part of the iGEM plasmid.
Battery Design
Put all the photos of the fuel cell on the wiki, not Facebook.
Detailed plan of the next stages e.g. modelling. review each Wednesday.
Breadboard
Photodiode in the biological compartments
Make the breadboard quickly, we can fit the biological components to the breadboard so these measurements are not fixed.
Research the magnets and the effects they may have on the different components.
Detailed plan for next Wednesday.
Track selection
Try to think about the foundational advancements of our project rather than just the educational side of things – “Creating a new field of biology and electronics”.
Make a timeline of where we see these components in the future
Outreach
Think about the ethics of our breadboard.
20th-21st of July - Sixth formers are coming for an introduction to synthetic biology day with Tom. Possibility to trial our product/idea to see what sixth formers think about it.
Mark Wipat, Kristina has emailed him but has had no response.
Wiki
EVERYTHING HAS TO GO ON THE WIKI
Supervisors need to fill in the template for their biography. Examples can be seen on the Google Drive.
Medal Criteria
Bronze
The standard RBS (BBa_K1895001) is our new part
The rest have also been completed.
Silver
1.
2. Collaboration with either Edinburgh/Macquarie or other teams from the Paris meet up.
3. Human Practices will be covered with meeting the school children, public survey etc.
Gold
1. Integrated Human Practices could either be changing the gfp to luminescence; or improve our breadboard design after talking to children about it.
2. Improve the function or characterization of BioBrick by changing the htpG and site and the sigma factor.
3. Proof of Concept, we can meaure the GFP fluorescence over time and see if the extra sigma factor enhances the signal.
Demonstrate your work – the working breadboard
Symposium
Friday 8th there is the Symposium at the CBCB.
Martin would like a copy of the poster to display and we can get feedback from people at the Symposium.
Reminder of the next meeting
The next meeting will be at 15:00 6th July in CBCB Level 2 Meeting Room.
The meeting is being run by Emilija (chair) and Josh (minutes).
PUT EVERYTHING ON THE WIKI!!!!
