Silver HP
Beside the lab work we also want to aspire dialog with our community. For this purpose,
we collaborated with Ran Levi – famous Israeli podcaster, and organized a pub quiz
session at a local pub located in downtown Haifa. The event composed of three parts:
introduction, quiz and discussion.
Introduction:
Ran Levi introduced himself and talked about his podcasts. Follow by,
we introduced synthetic biology, iGEM competition and our project.
Quiz:
questions were presented by Ron Levi and each group has to answer. The questions refers
different disciplines such as history, literature, biology and more. Those questions
written by Ran Levi and our team member Bar.
Discussion:
we took advantage of this platform and asked the participants for their thoughts about
using bacteria for detecting different substances. We got varied of answers, which led
us to understand that essential work have to be done to change public opinion regarding
the microorganism world and its possible uses. We asked the participants for one more
question – what substances would they like to detect with our system? We got more
answers that we can count, but one emphasis the need for detection allergens such as
Lactose. This urged us to work harder on our system to enable vast substance detection.
The whole event was recorded and will be published as a new podcast on Ran Levi website.
