Diverse homoserine lactone systems for cellular communication

Our Project

Quorom sensing (QS) allows bacteria to sense the surrounding cell population and "communicate" with their neighbors. Bacteria do this by releasing an inducer protein, such as a N-acyl homoserine lactone (AHL), which upon reaching a certain concentration, will activate genes that increase cell density. Our project aims to characterize a variety of AHL networks, increasing the number of functional QS systems with minimal crosstalk in synthetic biology.
