This year, we found that our interlab study kit had some problems so we again asked our “old neighbor”, Shenzhen University, for help. They would not do interlab study so consequently they provided us their interlab study kit and great kindness.

It seems to be a conversion to cooperate with SZU-China iGEM team. Attending iGEM competition and organizing every event well is a tough challenge for every team every year. That will be comforting to have a reliable friend through time.

In September, when we all were busy with the part construction, they found that their pSB1C3 backbone from the provided kit didn't work. As a result, their target gene could not express successfully. After had changed their antibiotics, LB agar plate, and all kinds of gene inserted, they gave up and found us.

We provided them with the original backbone and our chromoprotein biobrick plasmid with pSB1C3 and constructed assembly including one red pigment coding sequence eforRed. It is our favorite design that it could express significant crimson and be used as a reporter in ligation. Our plasmid played a great role in their following experiments.

With TCU_Taiwan

This year TCU_Taiwan had a great idea to use chromoprotein as a reporter detecting diabetes. As a diagnostic tool, the bacterial indicators were hoped to synthesize pigment as soon as possible when detect the glucose in blood samples or urine samples.

By chance, our team was building our chromoprotein biobricks. Of course, we kindly reminded them the long expression time of chromoprotein and gave them some pertinent suggestions about the probable substitute, such as R-GECO which could respond instantaneously. We really hoped our kind suggestion could help them to improve its design and make it perfect.

Special Thanks

We have to mention a special group that help us a lot. That is the whole family of iGEM-China. Chinese students now make up a significant part in iGEM. However, due to the Internet barrier, annoying time zone, and the language gap, there are many challenges during the whole competition. So we established a social media group for discussion and helping each other. Every communication could be seen as a cooperation.

We also want to thank the team UCKU. They organized a wonderful conference to make the team in the Asia-pacific area get together. We received hospitality and warmest entertainment during those days. It was a really good chance to practice presentation, and, most importantly, make friends with various persons.
