Future

Bio101 should not only be a kind of software created to join in the competition, but also a tool with an ultimate goal to contribute to the revolution of information storage technology. We have done our best to design, implement and test Bio101 which has successfully realized its functions of information archiving and rewriting. And we will pay further efforts to improve our software, mainly focus on two aspects: wet-lab verification of DNA editing and integration of DNA information storage system.

Wet-lab verification of DNA editing

To prove the feasibility of data editing function, we plan to do a wet-lab validation of DNA editing. We have used our software to design the crRNA and the new DNA fragment according to user demand. Since we need CRISPR-Cas9 system to damage DNA which corresponds to the target file, it’s necessary to validate the feasibility in bio-technology. Our first goal is to design a workable experiment of knockout.

Integration of DNA information storage system

Bio101 now has solved the problems in software, but still can’t solve the challenges in hardware. In order to provide friendlier user experience, we want to realize the integration of coding, synthesis, decoding and editing, which means you can use DNA information storage system as convenient as USB.

In the era of information explosion, there is no doubt that Bio101 will have a bright future. Once the current biotechnology achieves a breakthrough in DNA synthesis and sequencing, our system could be widely used everywhere.
