Team:Stanford-Brown/SB16 BioMembrane AptamerPurification

Stanford-Brown 2016

Introduction

The capturing properties of aptamers alone can be synthetically useful, independent of sensing applications. In this project we built on both previous work [1] and our own observations from the FQ project that immobilized aptamers appear to retain functionality when bound to solid surfaces. Here we created a membrane coated with immobilized aptamers against PQQ, and demonstrated that it could be used to concentrate PQQ out of dilute solutions. Importantly, the bound PQQ retained its catalytic activity. We propose this concept as a way of creating new columns against difficult to purify substrates.
